Coalescent Announces Expanded Laboratory Operations
Orlando, FL. January 10, 2009 – Coalescent Technologies Corporation announced today that it has completed an expansion of its Chemical laboratory in Orlando Florida, tooled specifically for the direct support and maintenance of the M22 Automatic Chemical Agent Detector Alarm (ACADA) used by the U.S. Armed Forces. The Coalescent facility is specifically configured, and the staff carefully selected, with an Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) focus, the proven technology used in the ACADA.
Opening its first IMS laboratory in 2006, Coalescent has serviced and refurbished Chemical Agent Monitors (CAMs) at and beyond depot-level for our federal customers. Laboratory refurbishment of military chemical agent detectors includes their internal pneumatic, electronic, and detector cell subsystems; returning an in-service detector to factory level specifications and performance.
The laboratory expansion means Coalescent now offers direct support level refurbishment capability specifically for the larger, multi-mode ACADA. Using IMS technology, the M22 ACADA is an advanced point-sampling chemical warfare agent detection system that continuously monitors the atmosphere for the presence of nerve agents and blister chemicals.
Chemical warfare (CW) agents continue to be a viable threat to military forces and first responders around the world. The manufacture of chemical warfare agents in small quantities by terrorists is an ongoing threat, as well as the manufacture and use of military quantities of chemical warfare agents for delivery against forces during military missions. Chemical warfare agents are colorless and in many cases odorless, which at very low concentration, can cause incapacitation and lethal effects on personnel. With sufficient detection and warning, military personnel can take protective measures to reduce their exposure to these chemical warfare agents, thereby preventing or reducing casualties. The ACADA, when employed properly, provides this warning.
