Coalescent Technologies
Corporation’s Training Product, the
Virtual Incident Management System
(VIMS™) training software is featured
on the cover of the Spring Issue of
the “NBC International” publication.
Coalescent’s Chemical; Biological;
Radiological; and Nuclear (CBRN)
synthetic training solutions are a
focus of an article entitled
“Contains artificial colours and
contaminants” by Rob de la Poer. The
article explores the growing use of
synthetic training environments for
CBRN training by examining a tool
used at the United Kingdom’s Defence
CBRN Centre and Coalescent’s
gaming-technology based products
developed in cooperation with the
U.S. Chemical School at Ft. Leonard
Wood.
Coalescent’s synthetic CBRN training
systems are designed to provide
scenario-based training, in a common
synthetic environment, to
individuals and/or units. The
participants can all be in the same
classroom setting, or distributed to
multiple locations and connected via
a local area network or through the
web. These training systems are
further designed to enable
cooperative training and incident
response rehearsal among military
and first responder organizations
down to the Local level.
The broad capabilities of these
training solutions are highlighted,
in the article, by Coalescent’s
Operations Manager, Bob Eastman: “We
had to adapt everything, from the
different chemical agent monitors
and their reaction to different
chemicals to the uniforms and
animations for holding that
equipment and calling out alarms
during NBC engagements… plus on top
of that we had to program in the
plumes, chemicals, and agents. You
have a whole range of tools…for
instance, if you have a CAM, you can
bring that up to go though its
testing phases, and it will actually
come up on the screen and look like
the authentic model. This is all
done in real-time.” Mr. De la Poer
notes that: “This flexibility of
scenario and situational evolution
far outstrips that offered by
physical simulations, and could
therefore be considered more
immersive for the user.”
