Asset Management Systems

Enterprise Asset Management
Most organizations typically have thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of assets.
Those assets range from equipment to containers, from PCs to tools, and from documentation libraries to corporate literature.

The task of managing them and keeping track of their lifecycles and costing information for management purposes has moved over the years from a labor-intensive manual process to one aided and simplified by technology.

Asset Management Systems use embedded chips, scanners, barcodes, monitoring software and wireless technology to automate the process of tracking and managing assets. These systems generate far more useful management information than has every been possible before, thus offering increased efficiencies realized throughout the supply chain process.

The benefits and efficiencies realized by these systems led to the evolution of enterprise-wide visibility of an organization's assets. The industry term for this process/technology is Enterprise Asset Management (EAM).

Enterprise Asset Management is not a single technology but a combination of several. The fundamental concept behind EAM is the use of the Internet to link equipment and data sources, thus reducing corporate costs by cutting manpower requirements once needed to control the assets.

By automating and adding intelligence to the process, accuracy is increased, and managers can make sound strategic decisions based on an accurate picture of the number, location and status of assets that the company holds.

EAM automates reporting procedures and informs managers of important business trends. Better information about assets can therefore be obtained, including data on the location of assets, storage costs, warranty status, availability, and time when assets are sitting idle. There are many benefits to EAM:

1

  • Saves money

  • Reduces inventories and procurement, increases readiness levels, and improves management of assets.

  • Provides complete visibility of assets by organization, location quantity and condition.

  • Streamlines the logistics support provided to personnel in the field

  • Integrates the transportation system into a seamless logistics system

  • Frees leaders and their staffs to focus more effort on the operation of the organization

Coalescent Technologies has a proven track record throughout the DoD for designing and delivering Asset Management and Enterprise Asset Management systems and continues to play a vital role in supporting the government vision of Total Asset Visibility to support and sustain operations...
